Sunday, so this will be a short one.

You’ll remember back in June the continuing saga of the blockwork in the Town Square. You know, when they dug it up and couldn’t get it to fit when they re-laid it. And concreted over a bit where they no longer had enough blocks, though only Satan can explain how that came about. A particularly unsightly fix.

Well guess what? The Sustainable Solutions guys came back on Friday. Guess what they did? Go on, have a shot.

They ripped up the concrete and put some new blockwork down. Yes they did. This means that there have been no fewer than four operations involved, when it should have taken all of one if they’d got it right straight out of the hat. Still, at least now the blocks are all intact with no big chunks out of them.

It gets better, or worse, depending how you look at things. If you do the job properly, you brush kiln-dried fine sand into the cracks between the blocks. This is a bit of a bugger, but it’s not technically demanding, merely a bit of a faff.

What you don’t do is merely scatter coarse sand roughly along the seams and bugger off, what with it being Poets Day and all.
